Textile Artist Inspired by Folklore, Folk Horror & the Natural World
Jane Barnett is a UK-based textile artist whose hand-stitched embroidery explores the strange and beautiful space where myth, magic, and nature meet. Drawing inspiration from British folklore, folk horror, anatomical illustration, and the rhythms of the natural world, Jane creates richly detailed pieces that feel like they belong to another time — or another realm entirely.
Her work often features animals, plants, bones, and symbols, brought to life with traditional embroidery techniques and a modern, storytelling edge. Each piece is stitched slowly by hand, using natural fabrics and thread, with close attention to texture, colour, and detail.
Jane’s embroidery tells quiet stories — of transformation, decay, ritual, and wild beauty. Whether she’s stitching a skeletal cat surrounded by fungi or a flower-crowned anatomical study, there’s always something just under the surface: a hint of the uncanny, the enchanted, or the unseen.
She is committed to working sustainably, using mostly recycled fabrics, vintage threads, and repurposed materials wherever possible — keeping her art low-impact and deeply rooted in care for the natural world.
Based in Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire UK, Jane also shares her love of slow making through workshops and collaborations.
